Washington, DC — Today, the Coalition for Green Capital (CGC) announced its search for a new Chief Executive Officer to lead the United States’ first national green bank. The next CEO will continue advancing CGC’s mission to drive billions in public-private investments that accelerate America’s transition to a carbon-free economy.
CGC’s Board of Directors has formed a search committee, comprising several board members, to initiate and oversee a successful search process. Through a competitive procurement process they selected Heidrick & Struggles, an executive search and management consulting firm, to conduct the search. The Board has also requested that Reed Hundt continue serving as CEO until the nationwide search is concluded.
Members of the search committee include:
• Marla Blow, President and COO, Skoll Foundation
• William Demas, Senior Managing Director and Head of Americas, MAM Green Investments
• Roger Dower, Past President of the Johnson Foundation at Wingspread and Lead Independent Director of the CGC Board of Directors
• Bryan Garcia, President and CEO, Connecticut Green Bank
• Richard Kauffman, Chair of Generate Capital and Inaugural Chairman of Energy and Finance for New York
• Susan Tierney, Senior Advisor at the Analysis Group, Director of the World Resources Institute
CGC’s next CEO must demonstrate senior-level business and finance experience in clean energy, as well as a history of engaging with the public and private sectors and the strategic vision needed to achieve CGC’s market mobilization and policy objectives, and the management ability to lead a new, distributed team to execute on that strategy. Qualified candidates are encouraged to email usgreenbankceo@heidrick.com for more information on the position and the search process.
“We are now seeking to hire our next leader to implement our ambitious plan to mobilize private investment across this country, especially in underinvested communities, in projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution while creating meaningful benefits as the nation’s green bank working with our network of green banks,” said Chairman of the CGC Board, Bryan Garcia, President and Chief Executive Officer of Connecticut Green Bank. “On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Coalition for Green Capital, and its Search Committee, we want to thank Reed Hundt, the pioneer of the green bank movement, for his vision and leadership that charted a course for the launch of the nation’s green bank. We are appreciative of his willingness to continue to serve as CEO until we conclude our nationwide search.”
Under Hundt’s leadership, CGC has been a leading advocate for green banks for 15 years—educating lawmakers and the public on the potential impact of climate-friendly public-private investment and establishing the American Green Bank Consortium, a membership organization for green banks, community lenders, capital providers, developers, and other clean energy supporters working to expand and accelerate innovative clean energy investments across the United States.
“Now that CGC definitively is capitalized to operate a national green bank and build a network of economically self-sufficient green banks in every state, it’s time for the transition to a new CEO who can take this groundbreaking investment initiative to the next level,” said CGC Chief Executive Officer Reed Hundt. “I look forward to meeting the board’s selection and am honored to stay as CEO until my successor arrives.”
