Lain Gutierrez is a Managing Director on the Investment team at the Coalition for Green Capital (CGC). In this role, Lain originates, structures and leads the execution of clean and renewable energy asset-backed financings all expected to result in positive environmental outcomes.
Lain’s career in structured finance began as a banker at some of the leading financial institutions in the world including The Bank of New York, Mitsui Trust and Banking and Citigroup. Over the course of his 11 years at Citigroup, Lain originated, underwrote, structured and closed transactions across a wide variety of asset classes including: film & media, aircraft, trade receivables, auto, retail credit cards and timeshare.
Following Citigroup, Lain was a senior rating analyst at DBRS where he was responsible for rating esoteric ABS transactions including Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) and Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC) among others. At DBRS, Lain led efforts to publish new methodologies for rating PACE in July 2015, ESPC in December 2016, TV Programming Licensing Rights in December 2014 and updated the U.S. Film Rights Securitizations methodology in April 2015.
Later, Lain served as CEO of CleanFund, a commercial PACE originator and as a Managing Director with Benefit Street Partners (BSP). At BSP he led the development of commercial PACE as a new product offering for the firm.
Lain received his bachelor’s degree and MBA with a concentration in Finance from New York University Stern School of Business.
