Salman has over 25 years of diverse experience in the global energy industry, cleantech, insurance, and big-4 public accounting. He has proven leadership experience in strategic financial management, corporate and project finance, fundraising, corporate treasury, accounting, M&A, performance improvement, commercial operations, risk management, and audit.

Previously he was Chief Investment Officer at Caban Systems, a California-based energy storage startup. Prior to joining Caban, he served as the first CFO at SparkMeter, a smart grid startup with customers in 32 countries that provides enabling technology for utilities and governments to effectively design and implement plans that deliver decarbonization and universal access to electricity.

Prior to joining SparkMeter in 2019, Salman worked for 21 years for AES Corporation (NYSE:AES). AES is the next-generation energy company with over four decades of experience helping the world transition to clean, renewable energy. During his time with AES, he has held numerous leadership positions at both the corporate and business level. He served as Head of Treasury for Fluence (NASDAQ: FLNC), a JV between AES and Siemens with Energy Storage projects in over 20 countries where he built the Fluence Treasury function from the ground up. He was also Head of Treasury for AES businesses in Europe and the Middle East. Previously he served as Sr. Manager of Corporate and Project Finance with AES Corporate Treasury, Vice President for AES Global Insurance, CFO for AES Drax Power (a 4,000 MW power business in the UK), CFO and Commercial Director for AES Ekibastuz (a 4,000 MW merchant power business in Kazakhstan). Before Joining AES, Salman worked with Deloitte in audit and tax department.

Salman received a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Hailey College of Commerce, Pakistan. He also participated in development programs in Risk Management, Leadership and Business Valuation at Harvard Business School and University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. He is a CPA (inactive) and Chartered Global Management Accountant.
