EPA Selects Coalition for Green Capital for $125M Award to Establish Solar for All Programs in North & South Dakota

Washington, DC –Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its selection of the Coalition for Green Capital (CGC) for an award of $125 million from the Solar for All (SFA) Program to support North and South Dakota, pursuant to a competition conducted under the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). GGRF was established by the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. Many of CGC’s network partners are also among today’s SFA awardees.

CGC congratulates the EPA on awarding the remaining $7 billion of funding under the GGRF. The initial $20 billion in GGRF was awarded earlier this month. CGC looks forward to working with the Agency under SFA and the National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) to ensure a just and equitable transition to a clean power platform. CGC is committed to leveraging its award through NCIF to support establishing SFA programs in North and South Dakota and other award winners.

Eli Hopson, Coalition for Green Capital’s executive director and chief operating officer, said, “These awards are a big win for residents across North and South Dakota and on Tribal lands in the region. We look forward to meeting with local leaders, including Tribal leaders, to collaborate in putting these dollars to work quickly and effectively and in as many communities as possible. We also congratulate many of our network partners who have received awards and will deliver for their communities in states across the country.”

Nenha Young, Coalition for Green Capital director of policy and network, said, “We’re excited to support the development of Solar For All programs in North and South Dakota. When EPA launched the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund program, CGC applied for SFA resources on behalf of states that didn’t seek funding on their own because we believe every American deserves access to clean, renewable energy and lower energy costs for their household. CGC is eager to work with partners in North and South Dakota to bring this vision to life.”

Stephen Brown, Coalition for Green Capital chief network officer, said, “We are grateful to the EPA for selecting this critical project as part of the Inflation Reduction Act and the Solar For All program. This work will kickstart efforts to reduce costs for low-income households and in rural and indigenous communities while boosting renewable energy and creating jobs in traditionally overlooked areas.”

CGC’s network partners receiving SFA awards from EPA today includes: California Infrastructure Bank; Clean Energy Fund of Texas; Connecticut Green Bank; Groundswell Capital (Arizona); Growth Opportunity Partners; Hawaii Green Infrastructure Authority; Illinois Climate Bank; Inclusive Prosperity Capital; Maryland Clean Energy Center; Nevada Clean Energy Fund; North Carolina Clean Energy Fund; Ohio Air Quality Development Authority; Solar and Energy Loan Fund (Florida); and The Louisiana Clean Energy Fund.

On April 4, EPA announced its selection of CGC for an award of $5 billion from the National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF), pursuant to a competition conducted under the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. CGC has more than $30 billion of demand for its award funds and believes that private-sector investors are prepared to add more than twice that to the projects jumpstarted by public capital.
