David Petitt

Senior Program Director and Counsel

David Petitt is a seasoned policy and legal professional with 15 years of dedicated work in the clean energy sector. Throughout his career, David has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience across a diverse range of areas tied to the clean energy transition, from supporting the development of generation and transmission projects to navigating complex regulatory and policy landscapes. As Senior Program Director and Counsel, David plays a vital role as we seek to expand and strengthen our ecosystem of programs and partners to implement innovative investment strategies that align with our climate goals and to ensure that the benefits of the energy transition are shared with disadvantaged communities.
Prior to his current role, David was Assistant General Counsel at Xcel Energy in Denver, Colorado where he focused on a wide variety of federal regulatory issues related to renewable energy development, wholesale sales of energy, transmission service and development, compliance programs, and the development of western energy markets. Among other things, David supported the development and acquisition of multiple utility-scale renewable generation assets and helped to implement Xcel Energy-Colorado’s participation in its first energy imbalance market.

David began his legal career at Latham & Watkins in Washington, D.C. where he focused on project finance and energy regulatory matters, as well as dozens of mergers and acquisitions of energy assets.

David received bachelor’s degrees in both finance and economics from the University of Georgia, and his J.D. from George Mason University. The father of two, he currently resides with his family and their Australian Shepherd (Appa) in Golden, Colorado.
